The Reserve Bank of India is set to issue new Rs 20 notes with a greenish-yellow look in the new Mahatma Gandhi series, the bank stated in a notification dated 26 April, 2019. Shaktikanta Das, the Governor of the Reserve Bank, will sign the new Rs 20 notes. The size of the new Rs 20 note will be 63 mm x 129 mm.
Greenish-yellow is the base colour of the note along with other designs, geometric patterns complementing the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.
The details of the new Rs 20 notes are as follows-
*Denominational number 20 in ‘Devanagri’ and the picture of Mahatma Gandhi in the centre
* Micro letters ‘BHARAT’ (in Hindi), ‘RBI’, ‘INDIA’ and ‘20’ along with demetallized security thread with engraving ‘BHARAT’ and RBI
*Governor’s signature with promise clause, guarantee clause, and RBI emblem on the right side of Mahatma Gandhi’s picture and Asoka pillar on the extreme right of the note
* Numeric panel with numbers increasing from small to big, and Mahatma Gandhi’s picture and electrotype (20) watermarks on the bottom right side and top left
*’Swachh Bharat’ logo with slogan and printing year on the left side
*Language panel and image of Ellora Caves
* Denominational numeral 20 in ‘Devnagari
The RBI stated that “All the banknotes in the denomination of Rs 20 issued by the RBI in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender.”
