Argentina and Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi was not selected in the final three.
No member was selected from the Les Blues squad that just won the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Juventus and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo had previously won the last two Best FIFA Men’s Player award in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, Ronaldo won the third consecutive UEFA Champions League title with Real Madrid in May and finished the tournament as the top scorer, before moving to Turin-based club Juventus for a £99.2 million. Ronaldo had won the best forward in Europe a few days back.
Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric was named the 2018 World Cup’s best player of the tournament as Croatia reached the finals, where they were beaten by France. Modric also won the Champions League with Real Madrid and was named as the best player and midfielder in Europe.
Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohammed Salah had a brilliant last season, scoring 44 goals and helped Liverpool reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they lost to Real Madrid.
Lyon’s Champions League winning duo Ada Hegerberg of Norway and Germay’s Dzsenifer Marozsan are the finalists for Best FIFA Women’s Player, alongside Brazil forward Marta.
Brazilian forward Marta is among the top three of the Best FIFA Women’s Player award in 2018. The Champions League winning duo from Lyon Dzsenifer Marozsan and Ada Hegerberg of Norway have also reached the last three.
