Mary Kom Review

Mary Kom

This is one of those boxing films that is about a lot more than just boxing. It transports you to a realm beyond the protagonist’s bust cheekbones, broken jaws, and damaged ribs— MC Mary Kom, an Olympic bronze medalist in boxing. The film goes right to work, when Mary, who is amid difficult labour, begins to see visions of her arduous rise to the top as the country’s finest female boxer.

The first part of the film focuses on her modest beginnings (in the far reaches of Manipur) and her unwavering determination to become a boxer. The film plunges headfirst into her emotional battle in the second half, when she is confronted with the hardships of parenthood and a strong desire to achieve in her job, bringing both pain as well as joy. People assumed her career stopped when she became a mother but she was confident in her talent and forged forth.

She had to overcome several challenges early in her career, including starvation and gender prejudice. All of this, however, had little effect on her willpower. Women frequently put their careers on hold to care for their families. Kom, on the other hand, juggled all of her challenges and emerged as a rock star parent and wife, winning the world title five times. Kom was always confident about her abilities. Her opponents were frequently more prepared and stronger than her, but she focused on what she was excellent at and exploited it to the fullest.

Kom remained courageous throughout the hardships. She made sure she had the necessary training to help her become a champion, despite coming from a town where no one would have imagined producing a woman boxing champion. Her family wouldn’t approve of her boxing passion, so she had to hide it. Throughout this, she remained courageous and gallant.

Without question, Chopra is the film’s heart and soul, but Darshan Kumar’s portrayal as Onler Kom (Mary’s husband) is also quite impressive. He was her support system. Everyone has portrayed their characters with utmost integrity and dedication, so much so that we are lost in the universe of Omung Kumar, to witness the journey of a fighter, a journey of a mother who knocks up all the adversities that life throws at her.

In addition, Mary Kom contributed to society by founding the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. She is a proponent of animal rights and a member of PETA. Following her accomplishment, she went above and above to assist her father, siblings, and brother-in-law. She has shown us that gaining doesn’t mean anything if you don’t give. The Magnificent Mary Kom has raised the standards of women in India. She is fearless, stunning, and tough. This movie is a perfect example of a women-oriented movie. The movie is well crafted, and the screenplay is an absolute treat to your eyes.

Mary Kom’s life and tribulations are depicted in great detail in the film. However, there are numerous faults in the script. It wasn’t actually about boxing or a boxer’s life. At times, the story might be a little tedious. Except for the over-dramatization of a few sequences and zealous commercial placements, director Omung Kumar and creative director/producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali have a solid handle on the film’s narrative lines. Overall, the picture succeeds in evoking strong emotions in the audience.
